[Day-2]Virtual Bi-Monthly Lecture series – 5 on Immunology and Inflammation

Dr. Sampath Rangasamy spoke about the role of inflammation in microvascular diabetic complications. Ang-2 is an important pro-inflammatory and provasopermeability agent in DR pathogenesis. CCL2 is a Pro-inflammatory cytokine mediating monocyte recruitment and microglial activation in DR pathogenesis.

Dr. Satinath Mukhopadhyay discussed fresh inflammatory tunes of metabolic disorder concern by Fetuin-A (Fet A). Fet A acts as an adaptor protein between FFA & TLR4 to promote adipose tissue inflammation and insulin resistance. Given that most anti-inflammatory approaches to prevent insulin resistance may carry the risk of unwanted inhibition of immune functions, more specific therapeutic approaches are of great interest.

Dr. Chandrashekara. S discussed immune metabolism being a potential area of intervention in inflammatory disease. An amendment to a bad program i.e., altering the metabolic pathways that are persistently active in inflammatory helps to achieve good control of inflammatory diseases.
